Overview
Lithium Polymer Pouch Battery Structure Description
A Lithium polymer pouch battery is built by manufacturers by stacking the electrode layers in an aluminum-plastic pouch, with tabs on each end. They initially position cathode and anode sheets in an exact staggered pattern and place a microporous separator between them to ensure electrical isolation. Then, engineers stretch current collector tabs in opposite directions, and they adjust the alignment in the stacking process. Then, employees insert the finished electrode assembly into the pouch casing and position it properly before starting the preparation.
Material Composition and Layer Design
To create the cathode layer, producers apply lithium metal oxide materials to aluminum foil, and to create the anode layer, producers apply a slurry made of graphite to copper foil. In the meantime, they present a polyethylene and polypropylene multilayer separator to facilitate ion transport and prevent internal contact. Moreover, they choose aluminum-plastic composite film as the outer enclosure material, and this design integrates barrier protection and mechanical flexibility. The technicians then inject lithium salt electrolyte dissolved in organic carbonate solvents, and they make sure that all electrode surfaces are uniformly penetrated.
Electrode Tab Configuration and Connection Method
At one end of the cell, engineers place aluminum cathode tabs and copper or nickel-coated anode tabs. Then, they connect the tabs to the current collectors with ultrasonic or resistance welding machines. Meanwhile, they insulate the tab exit area to avoid edge shorting. Once the welding is done, operators carefully route the tabs out of the pouch, and they check that the tabs are properly aligned to prevent stressing internal layers, and then they close.
Standards and Manufacturing Control System
During production, quality teams adhere to IEC 62133 and UN38.3. During various steps, they check dimensions, weld strength, and insulation resistance. Moreover, they assess capacity and align internal resistance to ensure consistency of batches. Lastly, they perform vibration, thermal shock, and high-temperature storage tests and ensure that every cell is of the necessary safety and manufacturing specifications.
