3.7V Lithium Battery Structure and Composition
The lithium battery (3.7 V) consists of a positive electrode material, a negative electrode material, an electrolyte system, and a separator layer. Lithium-based compounds like lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate or lithium manganese oxide are usually used in the positive electrode depending on the design specification. The negative electrode is usually composed of graphite or other carbon materials that have stable intercalation characteristics. The electrolyte is made up of lithium salts in organic solvents, which facilitate the transfer of ions between electrodes. The separator is a microporous polymer film that ensures that the electrodes do not come into direct contact with each other and the lithium-ion movement is allowed.
Production Process and Formation
In the manufacturing process, the electrode materials are sprayed on aluminum foil (cathode) and copper foil (anode). These coated electrodes are rolled or stacked to a jelly-roll or laminated structure, specific to cell type. The assembly is done under a dry controlled environment to avoid contamination by moisture. The cell is then stacked or wound and then fitted into a casing, which can be cylindrical, prismatic or pouch-type depending on the design requirements. The electrolyte is then injected and the cell is then sealed by using heat sealing or laser welding.
Production Process and Formation
The process of production involves the electrode mixing, coating, drying, calendering, slitting, stacking or winding, filling the electrolyte, sealing and formation cycling. The formation cycling is an important process, during which the internal chemical structure is stabilized through controlled charging and discharging, and the electrochemical system is activated. Aging tests are then carried out to maintain consistency in internal resistance and voltage stability between batches.
