Flat Lithium Polymer Battery Materials Composition

Flat lithium polymer battery is made up of cathode material, anode material, electrolyte system, separator film, and aluminum-plastic composite pouch. The cathode layer is typically made of lithium cobalt oxide or ternary lithium metal oxides coated on aluminum foil. The anode layer is made with artificial graphite coated on copper foil to create a stable intercalation structure. The ion-conductive medium is a lithium salt, e.g., LiPF6 dissolved in organic carbonate solvents. The separator is a microporous polymer film (PE/PP multilayer) that prevents the contact of electrodes and allows ionic exchange. The external structure is made up of laminated aluminum-plastic film to create a sealed flat pouch cell.

Electrode Manufacturing and Coating Process

The process of electrode production starts with slurry mixing of active materials, conductive carbon and polymer binders. The slurry is then deposited on metal foil substrates with precision comma blade or slot-die coating equipment. The electrodes are then dried in controlled ovens in multi-stage process to eliminate the solvents. Calendaring is used to compress the electrode density and to provide uniform thickness.
