Overview
OEM Lithium Polymer Battery Structure Overview
Manufacturers build the OEM lithium polymer battery with tabs on the same side by arranging electrode layers inside a laminated pouch system. First, engineers align the cathode and anode foils in a parallel stacked structure, and they position both current collector tabs on the same edge to simplify external connection routing. Then, they insert a microporous separator between electrode layers to maintain ionic isolation while allowing lithium-ion transfer. After that, technicians fix the entire stack through precision alignment fixtures before transferring it to the next process stage.
Material System and Electrode Preparation
Producers coat lithium metal oxide active materials onto aluminum foil to form the cathode, and they apply graphite-based slurry onto copper foil to construct the anode. Meanwhile, they mix conductive carbon and polymer binders into a stable slurry system to ensure uniform dispersion. In addition, they dry the coated electrodes under controlled temperature conditions to remove residual solvents, and they perform calendering to improve density consistency and surface adhesion. Subsequently, they slit the electrodes into defined widths to match OEM dimensional requirements.
Tab Arrangement and Structural Integration
Technicians position both cathode and anode tabs on the same side of the cell, and they weld them using ultrasonic or resistance welding methods to ensure low-resistance electrical joints. Moreover, they reinforce the tab exit area with insulation layers to prevent short circuits during later sealing steps. After welding, operators route the combined tab structure through a single exit zone of the pouch, and they carefully maintain spacing to avoid mechanical stress on internal layers. Meanwhile, they verify alignment accuracy before sealing operations begin.
Formation Cycling and Quality Standard Control
Technicians initiate formation cycling to activate electrochemical interfaces and stabilize internal SEI layers under controlled charge-discharge profiles. Afterwards, they conduct aging tests to evaluate voltage consistency and internal impedance behavior over time. Finally, quality teams perform dimensional inspection, weld strength testing, insulation resistance measurement, and leakage detection in accordance with IEC 62133 and UN38.3 standards, ensuring each OEM lithium polymer battery meets strict manufacturing and transport safety requirements.
