Overview
Compact Cylindrical Lithium Battery Structural Overview
The compact cylindrical lithium battery (13450 series, 3.7V class) is built by engineers on micro roll-core architecture with very tight control. They first laminate cathode foil, anode foil, and separator film into a continuous layered strip, which they then wind into a compact spiral core under controlled tension. In the meantime, they control alignment accuracy to maintain uniform electrode spacing during winding. Then, technicians place the completed core into a small cylindrical metallic casing and stabilize its internal geometry, and then the process of filling it with electrolyte starts.
Material Composition and Electrochemical Layers
To create the cathode layer, manufacturers apply lithium transition-metal oxide to aluminum foil, and to create the anode layer, they apply graphite-based slurry to copper foil. Moreover, they add a PP/PE micro porous separator to facilitate the transportation of lithium-ion and avoid internal short circuit. Moreover, they make an organic carbonate electrolyte with lithium salts like LiPF6, and they keep the levels of moisture at a minimum to preserve the chemical stability. In the meantime, the cylindrical shell is made of high-strength steel or aluminum alloy to guarantee structural rigidity and sealing performance.
Electrode Fabrication and Winding Process
Technicians combine active materials, conductive carbon, and polymer binders into a homogeneous slurry system, and apply it to metal foils with precision coating equipment. They then dry the electrodes that are coated by thermal processing in stages to eliminate the solvents. They then calendar electrode surfaces to control density and consistency of thickness. They cut the electrodes into thin strips, then insert them into automated winding machines to create a uniform jelly-roll core. In the meantime, they join electrode tabs either by ultrasonic or resistance welding to provide stable electrical connections.
Formation Cycling and Standard Compliance System
Engineers start formation cycling to trigger electrochemical reactions and stabilize internal interfacial layers. Then, they perform aging tests in controlled temperature conditions to test voltage stability and impedance behavior. Lastly, quality teams conduct dimensional inspection, insulation resistance testing, and sealing verification. During the manufacturing process, manufacturers adhere to IEC 62133 and UN38.3 standards, which guarantee structural integrity, electrical consistency, and compliance with transport safety in compact cylindrical lithium battery manufacturing.
