Overview
Cylindrical Lithium Battery Structural Configuration
The cylindrical lithium battery (18350, 3.7V class) is produced by engineers with a compact electrochemical architecture that is based on a tightly wound spiral core. The first step is to assemble a multilayer strip of cathode foil, separator membrane and anode foil. Then they roll up the layered structure into a tight cylindrical roll and constantly adjust tension and alignment precision. In the meantime, technicians observe edge positioning during the winding phase to minimize internal movement and disproportionate compression. Once the core is formed, they insert the assembly into a reinforced cylindrical enclosure and stabilize its geometry, then start processing electrolytes.
Material Composition and Electrochemical Layer Design
The cathode is made by manufacturers by coating lithium transition-metal compounds onto aluminum current collectors and the anode is made by using graphite-based carbon slurry on copper foil substrates. Moreover, they add a microporous polyolefin separator to facilitate ionic transport and ensure electrical isolation between electrodes. Moreover, they formulate the electrolyte using lithium salts dissolved in organic carbonate solvents and they tightly control the amount of impurities and moisture content during preparation. In the meantime, the cylindrical housing is made of steel or aluminum alloy materials to ensure dimensional stability and mechanical sustainability in sealed conditions.
Electrode Production and Core Assembly Process
Technicians start by mixing active powders, conductive additives and polymer binders into a stable slurry mixture. They then deposit the slurry on metallic foils with automated precision coating systems. Once coated, they dry the electrodes by staged thermal treatment to remove solvents and stabilize the adhesion of the materials. Calendering equipment is then used to compress the electrode surfaces to obtain uniform density and uniformity of thickness. They then cut the processed materials into thin strips and feed them into automated winding machines to form a tightly packed jelly-roll structure. In the meantime, operators fix existing tabs with ultrasonic or resistance welding processes to provide stable electrical conduction.
Formation Cycling and Industrial Standards
The engineers perform controlled formation cycling to turn on electrochemical interfaces and stabilize internal reaction layers in the cell. They then perform thermal aging tests at controlled environmental conditions to test the stability of impedance and voltage. Lastly, before shipment approval, quality control teams conduct dimensional inspection, insulation resistance test, and sealing check. During production, manufacturers are in line with IEC 62133 and UN38.3 requirements, which guarantee that the production of cylindrical lithium batteries meets the requirements of international transport safety, structural reliability, and electrical consistency.
