Overview
Cylindrical LiPo Battery Structure Overview
Manufacturers construct the cylindrical LiPo battery using a rolled electrode architecture housed inside a rigid metal casing. First, they wind the cathode, anode, and separator into a tightly controlled jelly-roll structure, and they insert it into a cylindrical shell. Meanwhile, engineers align the current collectors to maintain consistent internal contact distribution. After that, they secure the electrode assembly inside the housing and prepare the cell for electrolyte filling under controlled environmental conditions.
Material Composition and Electrode System
Producers coat lithium metal oxide compounds onto aluminum foil to form the cathode layer, and they apply graphite-based slurry onto copper foil to build the anode layer. In addition, they introduce a microporous separator film made of polyethylene and polypropylene to maintain ionic pathways while blocking direct electrode contact. Furthermore, they select an organic carbonate-based electrolyte containing lithium salts such as LiPF6, and they ensure chemical stability during injection and operation. Meanwhile, the cylindrical metal casing uses steel or aluminum alloy materials to provide structural integrity and pressure resistance.
Electrode Winding and Cell Assembly Process
Technicians cut coated electrodes into precise strips, and they carefully stack them with separator layers before initiating the winding process. Then, they roll the layered structure into a compact cylindrical form using automated winding equipment. After that, they insert the jelly-roll core into the metal can and weld the bottom terminal. Subsequently, they connect the top cap assembly, and they seal the structure using laser or resistance welding techniques. At the same time, they maintain alignment accuracy to avoid internal deformation during compression.
Formation Cycling and Industrial Standards Control
Engineers initiate formation cycling to activate electrochemical reactions and stabilize the solid electrolyte interphase layer inside the cell. Then, they conduct aging procedures under controlled temperature conditions to monitor voltage consistency and impedance behavior. Finally, quality teams perform dimensional inspection, internal resistance testing, and safety verification. Throughout production, they comply with IEC 62133 and UN38.3 standards, and they validate mechanical strength, electrical stability, and transport safety requirements for cylindrical LiPo battery manufacturing.
